Hi, I’m Vino Jeyapalan, and PFAS Free Pet is my way of digging deeper into what’s really in the world around us and how it affects the health of our pets and ourselves.
I have a personal mission to understand and reduce the hidden chemicals, microplastics, and PFAS compounds that are quietly finding their way into our homes, our bodies, and the lives of our pets.
I’ve always been curious about science and how we can live healthier lives. Back in high school, I founded the Youth Environmental Network of York Region (YENYR) — a non-profit dedicated to educating students about sustainability long before it was a mainstream topic. That curiosity led me to study Biomedical Science at Western University, where I became fascinated in my genetics and chemistry classes. I quickly learned about the ways chemicals and compounds like microplastics can persist in our bodies…which freaked me out a bit.
Years later, after losing my dog to stomach cancer, I founded a fresh dog food brand in Canada called Kabo which focused on improving pet diets by moving away from ultra-processed foods. That experience changed the way I looked at what we feed our pets and the hidden environmental and chemical factors that affect their health just as much as ours.
I’ve since also enjoyed the opportunity to travel to over 51 countries (and counting) where I have seen firsthand the people and communities impacted by all these microplastics. It’s eye-opening and it made me want to take a closer look at how I could help share more information on how to create a cleaner, safer environment while realizing it’s hard to sacrifice the luxuries in life we have gotten use to.
This blog is a place for me to share what I’m learning from my personal research, questions I see pop up in reddit, and my at home product tests — around PFAS, microplastics, and other chemicals that can quietly build up in our homes. There are no paid promotions or ads here. I’m not trying to sell anything. My goal is to share what I find, review products honestly, and hopefully help others who are also trying to make sense of it all and live a little cleaner, one step at a time.
Yours truly,
Vino
